Shrinking Dallas Police Department on pace to miss hiring goals again

The Dallas Police Department is once again on pace to lose more officers than it can hire for the fiscal year.

In the first three months of the fiscal year, which began Oct. 1, the department lost 98 officers and hired 42, according to department statistics. The continuing attrition has exasperated City Council members and department leaders, who have tried in recent years to boost retention and recruitment.
