DPD Loses a Longtime Volunteer and Supporter

Doug was such an inspiration to Crime Watch organizations across the city. He will be sorely missed.

A great friend and longtime volunteer for the Dallas Police Department, Mr. Doug Woodham passed away at home on Saturday, January 17, 2015; he was 79.

Doug was actively involved in several DPD volunteer programs throughout his many years of service including Crime Watch groups, Citizens Helping in Parking Solutions (CHIPS), Volunteers in Patrol (VIP), Crime Watch Executive Board (CWEB) and his latest program, the Dallas Junior Police Academy (JPA).

While no one can remember the exact day when Doug started volunteering for the Dallas Police Department, he has been working with DPD longer than anyone can remember. Doug was a long time resident of Old Lake Highlands in the Northeast Patrol Division where he devoted countless hours to his community through his volunteer efforts with the Dallas Police Department.

He will be greatly missed.

Labor Day is a No-Refusal Weekend!

The Dallas Police Department will conduct a No-Refusal DWI Initiative for the Labor Day weekend holiday beginning 6pm Friday, August 29th, 2014 and will conclude at 6am Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014.

Per the Texas Transportation Code: All persons arrested for DWI will first be offered the opportunity to voluntarily provide a breath and/or blood specimen. If they refuse both, the arresting officer will prepare a blood warrant and have it signed by the on-duty magistrate.

This can all be avoided if one chooses to have a designated driver or take a cab!

Please forward this information to your family and friends who plan on going out to take part in festivities over the holiday weekend.

Regarding Availability of “Public Access to Police Reports”
(Post-Go-Live of new Records Management System)

On Sunday June 1, 2014 the Dallas Police Department will implement a new Records Management System (RMS). The new RMS will completely replace the old main-frame based report system.

Once fully implemented, the new RMS will give the Dallas Police Department improved intelligence gathering capabilities, increased accountability throughout the investigative process, and improved integration with the District Attorney’s Office.

Immediately after the system goes live, the process of validating the information entered into the new RMS will begin. This will be a joint effort involving personnel from within the Dallas Police Department, the City of Dallas Communication and Information Services (CIS) and the vendor. During this validation period, new reports entered into the system will not be available online to the general public. During this brief transition period, citizens will still be able to request copies of police reports through the Open Records Unit of the Dallas Police Department.

While it is the strong desire of the City of Dallas and the Dallas Police Department to provide timely and accurate public access to report information, every effort must be made to first ensure that we are in compliance with State and Federal laws and guidelines regarding the privacy of certain information.

Once the system information has been validated, the report information will be configured for public release and made available. Report information created PRIOR to June 1, 2014, will still be publicly available for viewing.
The validation period is estimated to be no longer than 30 days. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time of transition.
